Randy, Maybe I can back in to the "trick" just don't ask me to try it. I've had a dry sump oil pump spring an intake leak and wipe rod bearings, even with plenty of oil in the sump tank. Reason: it started pumping air into the bearings displacing the oil. If you remove the pump, or totally disable its relief valve, you don't pump air and do not displace the oil already in the bearings. Engine is probably happy to run for a long time with plain oil under those conditions. Test your memory and see if you remember seeing a pump pickup hanging down where it should have been in those tests when the oil pan was removed. I don't -- but memory is fallible. I'll defer to anybody who has a better magic trick. Steve
