You can run an engine a long time without oil in it. As in the better part of an hour. Been there, done that, several times.

My favorite dumb add was the one where a couple of guys were supposed to be junk yard morons. They were so impressed by whichever snake oil because the oil pressure light didn't even come on when the pan was removed. Think about it for minute...what turns on the oil pressure light? And how much oil pressure do we have with no oil in the engine? Got the trick now?
