It was a potential problem with all the letter series farmalls. One of the reasons was the pin the shifting lever pivots on gets worn and the lever doesn't catch the gear sometimes. Both my H and M have had the pin drilled out and a bolt put in its place. I'm not sure what other problems caused the tractor to be in two gears or what other fixed there are.
