I thought maybe I would start with the easiest thing to test, that being the ammeter. I hooked up one that I knew was working and everything seems fine now ... the system is charging and working well. Meanwhile, I found out locally here that this regulator is called a vibrating voltage regulator ... the one winding is the cutout relay and the other one controls voltage. As mentioned below, it is indeed a 3rd brush generator and the basic setting for amperage current output is done inside the generator via the 3rd brush location adjustment.
