Thanks- before you start that job-get a service manual, I&T or other. If it's like many tractors, you can drain the fluid, unbolt the top cover, and maybe a visual inspection will indicate what the problem is. Chipped gear, worn bearing, etc. Jack up the rear axle and rotate a tire to visually check all gears. Check your drained oil for parts and pieces- may indicate what to look for on the inside.
