I agree with Allen, you probably need to revise your figure upward a bit. Consider that by the time you get done tinkering over the winter, if you have to replace a rear tire and rim, a bunch of bearings and gaskets, and put a set of sleeves and pistons in it, and then seek out those items that were missing, like an air cleaner or a decent seat, you will probably have an additional $1500 or more in it, just in parts, then there's machine shop work, paint, and consumables like kerosene or solvent to clean it, PB Blaster to free rusted parts, motor oil, trans oil, etc, and you'll put another few hundred in it. Makes $700-1000 up front look less significant. Besides, think of it as a hobby and compare it to other hobbies like golf, drinking, woodworking, and it compares pretty good. Anyhow, I found my next project at a garage sale. I went looking for a flathead V-8 to put in a '50 Ford truck, ended up calling back a week later and buying a partly disassembled Farmall A that had been sitting there calling my name for $400. It's serendipity, I guess.
