About the bumpers, I'm originally from ND myself, and I understand why you don't need one, but here in western Washington, I use my 300U to mow my "meadow", about an acre of grass in the middle of a maple forest. Around the edges there are tons of low-hanging branches, and they can beat up a grill pretty easily. In addition, when I first mowed this area, the blackberries and salmonberries were over 9 ft tall in places, and a salmonberry stalk is plenty large enough to dent a sheetmetal grille.

I definitely agree with you on the diff lock, though, on our 806 and JD4430 we would set the diff lock before going thru wet spots and wouldn't have to worry about which tire was spinning, as we would just walk right thru. Without it we would have been stuck, or not able to farm those spots.
