Steve, one comment about the ether. Ether will not damage the engine if used properly in small amounts, while the engine is cranking. The guys that get in trouble are the ones that fog the air intake heavily, then jump in and try to crank the engine - usually resulting in an ether-locked engine, and possibly bent rods and other damage. It's always best to plug a tractor in, but sometimes that's not possible, like when a tractor sits in the field overnight during harvest or fall field work. Those fall nights can get pretty cold, and ether can save the day. It's also easier on the starting system for the engine to start quickly with a little ether than continuous cranking until the engine fires. My two cents.
