farmall 140 pto position

My wife and I recently aquired a '70 Farmall 140 and I noticed that the pto shaft is offset, rather than being centered like an A or B Farmall. I'm wondering how one uses it with it offset like that? With the 3 point lifting arms and top link centered it would seem that you really can't use the pto at all without building some sort of bracked that would allow whatever was to be driven to stand off far enough from the tractor to allow the u-joints to turn without overstressing them. Would like to use it for broadcast seeding and other lighter duties. What am I missing?
