Ty: I used to catch heck for degrading our '45 H back in the '50's. I'd call 1st the "1 mile per hour gear" and 2ed the 2-mile-per-hour-gear etc 3ed=3mph gear, 4th the 4mph gear.. and 5th the down hill only gear. Father didn't like any smart talk. But it was true. That was a carry over from the 1930's when everything was slow geared. I still feel it was stupid gearing.
