With a high vacuum condition below the throttle plates, it would draw considerable fuel thru the idle ports, on a carbureted engine. Opening the throttle would simply let it pull even more thru the main metering jet/or jets. But hey, you're moving, and the engine is running, so you're decreasing the fuel mileage some, versus idle, where you're getting exactly zero mpg. john in nebr.
