H tractor block

I bought an old red H tractor, bought a new belly mower and put it on, took it to the guy who is renting the farm. he just called and said a rod went thru the block...I don't know if it's fixable or not. How do I tell if it is fixable? What kind of money is ok for replacement block? What do I have to look out for when having someone do this work? Should I just sell it for salvage and start with another H?
