Paul, I would agree on that idea although he mentioned having a magneto in it which would negate the battery having an effect on spark. With a mag, it should go on and fire even with a very slow crank as if by hand. If it were actually a distributor, then you really need to make sure you get enough oompf from the battery to fire while cranking the starter.
