On a generator equipped tractor you have the generator output connecting to the reverse connected battery causing a dead short at twice battery voltage(Example, 12V pos generator connects to 12V neg battery = 24V dead short) The usual result is so much current across the regulator cut out relay that the contacts are burned away or welded together. If the contacts are welded together and the battery remains connected long enough,the high current flow into the generator will burn it up.
If the tractor is alternator equipped,then reversing the battery cables will instantly burn out the alternator diodes.
