I learned in my freshman highschool shop class in 1963 that the acetylene should be set at about 6 and the oxygen should be around 11. When I was working in an automotive machine shop in the 1970's, and would use the torch from a different department, the same person would always come to our shop and ask who had the acetylene pressure set so high. I tried his settings and the torch would not heat the metal properly. I've always used the 6 and 11.
