hphr/gal is an expression of how many horsepower an engine will produce, over one hour, on one gallon of fuel. For example, suppose a gasoline fueled engine is rated at 12 hphr/gal and produces 48 hp. 48hp/hr / 12 hphr/gal = 4 gal /hr fuel consumption If you can compare the "Nebraska" values for gasoline, lpg, and diesel to determine estimated hourly fuel consumption, and then multiply the gal/hr x the cost/gal of the fuel, you get an effective measure of relative cost per hour to operate the engine. Since ACTUAL results obtained in the field are not the same as "experimental lab results", the NEBRASKA values are good only for estimated comparison purposes, much like the conumer mpg ratings posted on new car stickers---they are good for officially comparing one car to another, or with tracors, one model with another.
