Mark, I don't know if this would be an option you would consider but last year I bought 57 acres that I plan to build on in the next 3 years or so. It has about 15 acres of fields that used to grow potatos and or hay untill the last owner let it grow in. Well the guy who owned it before him (still with me here?) asked me if he could again grow hay on my land. He'll fertilize and collect the hay for as long as I want him to. Only one year comitments. I know some people charge to let someone grow hay on their land but he'll have some expence getting the fields back in shape and I'd much rather see a nice hay field from my back porch then the brush that was there. I wont charge him anything and he'll try to bring it back to the way it used to be. Maybe you could find a local farmer that would be willing to do this on your land. You could see what he's using and doing and that would give you time to figure out what you need while your fields are being well taken care of. Just a thought.
