Paint combo on a 530

I have a JD 530 wide front which I am getting ready to paint. It had white on the lower part of the hood and decals when I purchased it in 1973 from the original owner. I thought this was incorrect until I recently went to a private showing of older JDs and logging equipment. The owner had an 830 with the same white paint on the lower half of the hood. Was this a 1959 trait for the _30s? He didn't know for sure. Still runs great! Mechanically and physically sound - no blow by and very few dents.
