Dear Robert,
the use of the rotary hoe can be even more damaging to soil structure than the use of discs or mouldboards. The action of the hoe can easily destroy soil aggregates and result in the soil having a powdery texture. This reduces water infiltration and soil aeration. Rotary hoes also require a greater power per unit width than the non-powered tillage implements. Care must be exercised in the use of all tillage implements to avoid soil degredation, cultivating with the correct moisture content, maintaining organic matter, etc. Regards,
