The deal about 26K# and 10K# is the ratings mandated by the Feds for all states on CDL requirements. Basically any Truck / Combination vehicle over 26000 lbs requires a class B license (not neccessarily a CDL though) If the gross weight of the vehicle combination exceeds 26K and the towed portion weighs 10K or more it bumps it to a class A. Do the math and you'll find out your basic dually with 10K+ GVWR towing a tandem / tandem goose with 20K worth of axles under it REQUIRES a Class A License. This often comes as a shock to folks on the side of the road with the "Diesel Cop" parked behind them. Amazingly theres no requirement for any special licensing for any vehicle that is registered as an RV regardless of the weight or what its towing, even when equipped with air brakes.
