I cleaned mine with mineral spirits and a pound of aluminum 1" roofing nails. Just pour in a couple of gallons along with the nails and shake it around, or, if its a heavy tank put it on a little red wagon and shake it back and forth. It cleaned my tank to a like new condition, and with the alloy nails you dont have to worry about punctures or sparks
