I agree. The lower radiator hose heater is easy and cheap. And they will work on any lower radiator hose that has a straight area about 4 or 5 inches long. Just get the right diameter and consider where the cord will be run. My diesel Ford won't start at all in weather colder than 20 degrees without the heater. With the heater, it has started normally at -20F after plugging it in for about a half hour with treated fuel.

No one was able to tell me if a specific core hole heater would fit my Ford. I did not want to remove a plug and find that the heater element would not allow it to fit because of obstructions inside the block. No problems at all with the lower radiator hose heater. I have not worried about overheating the coolant, as I do not leave it plugged in for long time periods, and only use it once in a while. I also know the coolant is circulating in the block, since the far end of the head gets about as warm as the one near the water pump. Easy fix!
