No experience with JD but I know my Masseys and Cockshutt seem to run equally well on almost any carb as long as it bolts up to the manifold flange OK. I found this out by experimenting with swaps when a tractor wasn't running well or I suspected a carb was misfunctioning. Probably would be the same for JD's too I would think.
