The nut and slotted screw in the steering box will adjust the "lash" or play between the gears (probably a worm-and-sector, not sure) in the gearbox, which may help some. More likely, the ball ends on the kingpins and the sockets on the tie rod ends are worn and will need to be replaced. JD will have the parts.
