You should do some initial tests and then repost with that. First, check that the flywheel isn't coming off the crankshaft. That usually causes knocking when the clutch is not engaged. Second, I would take the spark plugs out and see what kind of compression you have on both sides. You might then want to take the valve cover off and see that you have plenty of lift on the cams as that would do some bad things to you. Next, check the timing of the camshaft to the crankshaft. That would do some funky things as well. If you had to retime the mag, is it possible the cam jumped gear? There is a guy on the JD board by name of clooney that you need to ask for in your next post. He forgets more in a week than I would ever know.
