Only way out of this mess now is a flat NO. They aren't borrowers, they are users. I would just tell them I don't loan out equipment, because I need it to make my living. I would say that would be a true and fair statement. You've heard the ol' saying: "bite me once, shame on you, bite me twice, shame on me." I just wouldn't let them get away with it, and I'm probably one of the easiest guys around. I don't see how you can even stand the expense. I haven't noticed machinery prices going down to reasonable yet! If they break it, you have to fix it. Anyone that would borrow a piece of machinery and not even bother to fill the tank isn't much of a "neighbor." Dang city slickers!
