Actually, there is a problem. If a valve spool is set up for a double acting cylinder and a single acting cylinder is used, expect this. When the valve is stroked to allow the cylinder to collapse by gravity, the unused port on that valve section is pressurized. In an open center system, oil HAS to have a path, so all the pump's capacity MUST flow over the relief valve the entire time the valve is stroked that direction. Engine loading, noise, heating of the oil, and possible damage to the pump and relief valve will be the result. Possible corrections include converting the cylinder(s) to double acting, using a valve designed for one way cylinders, or running a hose from the unused valve work port to the hydraulic reservoir, giving oil a path back to tank other than over the relief valve.
