Hi, Drill, James, what Drill says, if you put the hay up on shares, his share is his, to sell to whomever wants to pay his price, including you, remember it's his hay, now. As was said, the number of crop share situations are almost limitless, all depends what you and the landlord set up that is agreeable to both parties. In my situation, the landlord and I drew up an agreement that lets me do all the work and take care of all crop expenses, on a third, two thirds, for me, crop share deal. If the landlord does not want their share of the hay, I have the option of buying it first, if I am agreeable to the "set" price, if not, I can wave the option, and buy hay elswhere. One thing I will stress, draw up a written agreement, ag offices usually have forms that you can go over and rewrite to suit yourselves. Verbal agreements have a tendency to get changed in the mind too easily. Written ones protect BOTH parties, and save a lot of hardships and hard feelings. Where abouts you be from Drill?
