My dad had a Ford 600 series tractor (1955 year) that had a Sherman Backhoe and loader. That tractor and hoe are long gone now. I used the hoe several times in the 70's. It had four control levers plus stabilizer controls. Not the orbital levers of today's hoes. Hyd. pump ran off the tractor rear PTO. It mounted(bolted up with 8 big bolts) to the tractor with big channel iron frames. The frames and hoe had to be removed if you wanted to use the 3 point hitch. Mounting or removing it so the tractor could be used for other work was a half day job. It was a good strong BH for it's era (1950's) but slow and clumsy compaired to today's models. The Ford tractor had a two speed second transmission so the PTO could be speeded up allowing the hydraulics on the hoe to work faster. That was the only Sherman hoe I have ever seen/used. I dont know if they had any 3 point hitch models. The one my dad had was used by a plumbing company for 20-30 years prior to my dad buying it. It definately was a commercial grade hoe.
