LP gas is liquified petroleum gas Also known as propane or butane. There are advantages and disadvantages to it. The main advantage is it's cleaner burning and the engines seem to last longer. The main disadvantage is it takes special equipment to refuel them. If your house is on LP you can fill from the same tank, but be sure you have someone show you the safe and proper way to do it. For your use I'd go with gasoline or diesel.
