The D should have more than enough hp. I'm not a JD guy but they are more than you need. what you will be missing is live pto. You can do fine but it's another thing to learn when there is no live pto. Not a problem for old guys like me who baled lots of bales without live pto but a little bit of a trick for those who have never done it.
