The old VAC case had a latch on the clutch pedal just for what you are talking about and it never seemed to hurt the springs.If you can get to the clutch spray some WD40 between it and the pressure plate ,and flywheel .Don't use oil! WD40 will mostly evaporate and not make the clutch slip,but still keep it from rusting
