Did you purge all of the air out of the filter assembly when you installed the new filter? There is a bleed screw on top of the filter assembly that you have to loosen and let run until the diesel runs free without bubbles. Did your engine start right after changing the filter, but quit within a minute? Or did you run it out of fuel? If either of these happened, you have air in your pump and lines. In my experience, it takes a lot of cranking to finally push all the air out through the injectors and get it to run right again. I only had to do this twice to learn to be real careful about running out of fuel! I suppose another possibility was that the filter change dislodged something that went into the pump, but I would doubt it. Even so, I would think that it should have started. Could you have dislodged the linkage, so the engine speed control is not hooked to the pump? Good luck, The D's are great tractors.
