How do I get rid of an inbox message with a virus?

I have Norton anti-virus protection and I received an unsolicited email last week which Norton alerted me to the fact that the attatchment had a virus (when I single clicked on the message). No matter what I tell Norton to do (eg. delete, quarantine, etc.), it tells me that it did it (and it did) but when I come back to the inbox, the message is still there. The Norton system cannot repair it. It has not yet been opened, but I've deleted it and quarantined it several times. Any suggestions as to how I can get it out of my inbox?
