Thanks for the info. There seems to be a lot of confusion out there when it comes to tractor ignition systems. Your info clarifies the sketchy info given in several "Recommendations for 12 Volt Conversion" articles. Your info also is in agreement with the resistance from a number of old coils I have that range from 1.2 to 3.6 Ohms. So I'm concluding that the total coil resistance for a 6 volt system should be about 1.2 to 1.5 and 2.7 to 3.3 for a 12 volt system regardless of a stamping that says "6' or "12" volt? While I have a good man's attention I'm going to stretch my good fortune and ask another stupid question. Why does JD have a resister built into their light switches on the 2 cyl tractors? I have several that have replacement switches without any resister that work just fine and costing 1/8 as much as JDs ($5 compared to $45). Was JD that concerned about a small spark when switching on/off (I'm assuming that the resister eliminates this spark?)

Still another is the alternator. No doubt using the original generator keeps the tractor pure, but for thos
