We belong to several clubs in our area, mainly for the show insurance as we exhibit a sawmill. The people I meet are all enjoyable, but they are a diverse group not adapting well to organization. First, there is a wild generation gap. We need the Knowledge of the elders and the ambitious energy of the younger ones. Younger retirees can be the driving force in a club if all of a sudden they have free time to devote to the club. Younger guys are juggling family and carreers and may not be always available. Money can be an obstacle. Our club had ambitions to get their own showgrounds and toward that end some guys got leaned on to sell raffle tickets to the point of exhaustion. Of course they dropped out, the fellow with the master plan died unexpectedly and we have a dwindling number of members still quibbling over the money. The lesson as I see it is keep it realistic and keep it fun for all concerned.
