Kathy , All brands of rotary cutters seem to have cheapened down in quality. If I were going to buy a new one , I would look at them all very closely. In reality , if I were going to buy a rotary mower , I would look for an older good used one. Most likly , the brand name would be Brush hog or Woods. But any of the older good heavy ones. Hear are a couple of things I would look for. Personally , I would buy a tow behind one. It would have a split drive shaft(Not one strait shaft. It would have a slip clutch , although shear pin is fine. Full size rubber tires are nice , unless your chances of getting a flat is high , like mowing thorn apples. I would also get one with at least a 100HP gear box. I like a six footer for all around mowing. A tractor with 20HP or more will run a six footer nicely. I've mowed many fields full of brush with a John Deere "B" , which has less than 20HP. But a tractor the size of a Farm-all "M" , John Deere "A" , or Oliver "77" is a nice combination for a six foot , 100HP Rotary cutter. What size tractor do you have? You may want to post the size of your tractor. By the way , when I bought my rotary mower , it was a good used , older one. My deck is 1/4" thich steel. I bet you won't find that in a new one today. I would never buy a new one. Quality is too cheap.
