I had a yellow jacket hit me in the cheek at about 60 mph and bounce into my ear under my helmet. I would guess it stung my ear 10 times while I was getting my road bike stopped--the only time I ever dumped a motorcycle on pavement. I yanked the helmet off, and what really P'd me off was the @#$%^ yellow jacket got away! I REALLY wanted another sting on my hand. My ear swelled up like a golf ball and I couldn't get the helmet back on, so I rode home without it, only about 10 miles. That, and the fact that another time I ate some kind of a large bug that hit my open mouth at speed, convinced me to always use a face shield when road riding. Not as COOL as just wearing shades, but a heck of a lot more practical! One of life's little lessons. No real harm done though.
