one method to do it is to disconnect a vacum line from the intake manifold and put a small valve and air fiting on it.now you have to rotate the engine with a wrench until the intake valve on the cylinder you are working on opens, this will give you a flow of air out the spark plug hole so that when you tap it all the chips will be blown out of the hole. remember to wear eye protection cause the chips get blown at you
