The "D" was the first of the letter series John Deeres and the IH equivilent was the 15-30. There were NO Farmalls which were equivilent. I believe the 15-30 became the 22-36 and then the WK-40. The biggest standard tread internationals would have been the "D"'s competition. By the late '40s, the W-9 and the WD-9 would have been closest, until the advent of the JD "R" which was supposed to have replaced the "D". During the 4 year overlap,(1949-53) if you wanted a big GAS or DISTILLATE tractor from JD you bought the "D", if you wanted diesel you bought the "R". The Farmalls you mentioned, CUB,A,B,C,H and M are all "rowcrops" and compared with the L,H,M,B,A, and G.
