REAL good point about being sure the clutch will slip. Many years ago when I was much younger and dumber, we had a JD hay conditioner, model 31 or some such. I used to run it with a Farmall Super C, and when it plugged up the slip clutch would not slip, the tractor just stalled. Then Dad got the M, and I hooked that up and went at it. Guess what? The first time it plugged up, the M grunted a little bit, and BANG, sheared the input shaft right off the conditioner gearbox like a stick of soft licorice. When I tore things down to repair it, I found the slip clutch rusted into a solid immovable mass. PS, the operator's manual specifically said to loosen the clutch at the beginning of each season and retighten it until it stopped slipping.
