Don`t know if it`s the same symptoms, but had a similar problem one time. Replaced a belt one time with one that had internal ribs on it running cross ways to the belt. When running it would ake a few revolutions and then flip over as you said. The pulleys were a VERY small bit out of line, but well within spec. But back on another elt that was solid without the ribs and never had another problem. All I could think of was the ribs were catching the edges of the pulley as it rotated and would twist it over. Stuck with the solid belt and never had another problem. Might be worth a try if everything else is correctly in line.
