Back in the middle 70's when we didn't know what gas prices were going to do (as if we do now!), I put Amzoil gear lube in the rear end and manual transmission of my nearly new Plymouth Duster to try to get better mileage. I was impressed by the way the car was less effected by extreme cold, especially the first couple of shifts at 20 below zero. However I was not impressed by the fact that both the transmission and rear end needed to have bearings replaced after 2 years with the synthetic lube. I had a number of other Darts and Valiants over the years, and that car was the only one I ever had transmission or rear end problems with. As a result, I have not used the expensive synthetics since. Maybe they have improved, but my experience was BAD.
