PRESSED STEEL RIMS

The rings on the steel rims I have were all rusted and beyound repair. The center hubs are in good shape. I drilled out the rivots and have replaced the outer ring. I thought about bolting the rings back together but I have found some 3/8 rivits. I have put some in and have hammered them in cold and some I have heated red hot. Getting them red hot is a pain. Is heating them nessesary.
