Hi Gary, It works simular to a radial pump. The gear teeth rotate with-in a bore at close tolarence and creates a vaccum with-in the bore thus sucking in the liquid if the liquid is present at the suction. If the gear teeth are worn too much smaller than the bore diameter, approx .004, then the pump can not create vacumm and compress the oil. At that time it's cheaper to replace the pump than to bore and fit a new gear to the new bore diameter or sleave the bore. Thats why they say there not rebuildable. To me it would depend how much free time I had and the equipment to sleave the bore! Thers alot more too how the gear pump works and the parts required but this should be enough to explain the basics. Try this website for a good read and learning. Sorry as I should have posted this earlier! T_Bone
