A steam powered electric plant is not efficient compared to a gasoline engine, it is just big. There is no other way of making a million horsepower. I work at a coal fired plant. we burn 3000 tons of coal per day. our boiler runs at 2500 psi and over 1000 degrees. We ahve 3 feed pumps with 3000 HP electric motors on each pumping water thru that boiler. We have tow other pumps that pull 60,000 gallons a minute of water from the river to cool the steam after it goes thru the turbine so we can turn it back to condensate and recycle it back to steam. Everything is computer controlled, and the efficiency is almost 30%, about 2/3 of a normal gas engine, but like i said, how else would you make a million horsepower??
