Hi Mike,

I'm still kicking myself in the head as my wifes Grandparents had some bottom land in Hoxie,Ks. The only time I was at the farm Her Grandmother was in a nursing home not doing well. All the brothers and sisters said to take what we wanted as no one wanted any of that. Well it wasn't ours and it didn't feel right and Grandma didn't give it to us.

Hanging in the old homested, now a barn, was brand new sets of harness, several sets, along with several original horse drawn wagons still in working order. On the outside was 5 neat old steamers in various stages of parts to complete working? tractors. I didn't pay to close attention to the steamers as I didn't have and intrest in tractors at the time.

Grandma pasted on a couple months latter.

The neighbor renting the land offered to buy the land. The family sold 400acres for $32000 in 1971. From what I was told, he dug a hole and bull dozed house, barn and the tractors in the hole.

Grandpa went thru the depression and didn't trust banks till the day he died. Supposed to have buried his money at the farm. Reason for the bull dozer?

Sure would have been neat to keep some of them steamers tho. My question is, what did he run the steamers on? I sure don't remember any woods near by nor see any coal mines? I wouldn't think that they would had enough money during the depression to buy coal? Crops grown on the farm?

Grandpa was long gone before I was aquired by the family so I never got to talk with him.

Today's Featured Article - Oliver 550 Clutch Overhaul Tips - by Greg Sheppard. I got my 1964 Oliver Model 550 (serial 141-139-519) second-hand and used it for several years before the clutch began to slip. After taking up the pedal linkage several times I saw it was going to take more than that. The engine had been leaking oil at the rear seal and I suspected ... [Read Article]
