On my M, it started with 6 volt and positive ground. since the old 6 volt battery was dead, we decided to switch to 12 volt and negative ground so that in case someone who was not familiar with that tractor would not try and jump it the wrong way. it still uses a generator but we had that converted to 12 volt. since the tractor had magneto ingnition, it was a pretty easy conversion. Someone should be able to post a wiring diagram for about any setup that you might have.
