The probelm with an open auction, is the negative comments the buyer gets from others. I sold a car thru Ebay, and the buyer and I were both happy with the deal. Before the buyer picked up the car he received several emails calling him stupid and offering to sell him a similar car at half the price. The buyer began to second guess his bid, and I was concerned he was going to back out. But fortunately he was a man of his word and did buy the car. I wish I had chosen the option to not give out the bidders identities. If I wanted to run the bid up, I could do it using several free email addresses or have a "friend" bid it up and no one would have known.
