There may be a reason they are just sitting in a field. Sometimes when you buy for next to nothing what you get is next to nothing. You can buy a 6-foot cutter from one of the independant brands new with a slip clutch for $850 or less. You can buy a slip clutch for most of the newer shear pin cutters for less than $100. Even if you did not tear up your pto on the tractor replacing a couple of yokes and ujoints on the cutter shaft can get expensive doing it yourself. If you decide to go with one of these old cutters check the gearbox and see if it still has oil and if the gears operate smoothly. Shafts and casting parts for old gearboxes can be very expensive.
